Modřany

History and present

Modřany used to be an independent village, promoted in 1936 to town and later on united with Prague. Its name comes from the original name „Modřiluhy“, which means a place on a meadow full of flourishing bluebells.

Today, it has been a part of Prague 12 district and it has undergone through the overall revitalization. This part of town is popular thanks to its location, which enables to live in the city and nature in the same time. Modřanská rokle, famous cycling rout Modřanská stezka or Movie Theater of Modřany – these are just few of many leisure time activity options in the neighborhood. There is also a large scale of shops and stores in the neighborhood available for everyday or occasional shopping.

Prague city center is accessible within few minutes by car as well as by public transportation such as tramway, bus or train located nearby at the train stop Praha-Modřany.

Roe deer, finch, weasel, woodpecker and others are living in the natural monument of size of 125 ha. This is a part of natural park Modřanská rokle - Cholupice and it represents a unique landscape. It is formed by a rocky bank of Libušský creek and deep mixed forest rich in flora and fauna.
